DAS Pronto Modeling Clay

DAS modeling clay is a natural earth clay. Unlike many other clays, it does not need to be baked, but will air dry to a hard surface that can be sanded and painted with a good acrylic or enamel paint.

It does not dry too quickly, giving you an hour or two to complete your work. However, what you don't use needs to be kept airtight, such as in a plastic tub or a secure ziptop plastic bag. As you are working it, a drop or two (not much!) of water will make it very easy to smooth.

You can use most any small implements to help with the details of the design, such as pencils, or you might want a set of modeling tools for professional results. Also, DAS is an excellent medium for using preformed molds, as it is easily pressed into the mold, keeps the form when removed, and simple to apply touchups before drying.

DAS comes in two colors, grey and terra cotta. Some gourders use the terra cotta because it is so close to the color of the gourd, but if you are going to color your product it doesn't matter too much.
